The week ending the 31st of December, 1898, was mild and wet. Minimum
temperature, 29o,0; maximum, 43°.5; mean, 43°.3. On five days more or
less rain fell. Total rainfall 0.81 inch. The sunshine was equal to 25.5 per
cent. Winds S.W. Mean barometer, 29.6 inches.
The week ending January 7th was overcast and damp. Minimum
temperature, 34°.0; maximum, 52°.0; mean, 40°T. On five days rain fell.
Total rainfall 0.24 inch. The winds were variable. Sunshine 5.8 per cent.
Mean barometer, low, 28'6 inches.
The week ending January 14th was similar in weather to the two
preceding weeks. Minimum temperature, 37o,0; maximum, 54o,0; mean,
45°-4. On five days rain fell. Total rainfall 0.65 inch. Strong S.W. winds
prevailed. Sunshine 14.2 per cent.
The week ending January 21st was wet and stormy. Minimum
temperature, 29°.5; maximum, 55o,0; mean, 48°.5. On six days heavy rain
fell, the rainfall measuring 2.67 inches. There was under 1 per cent, of the
possible sunshine. S.W. winds, at times strong, prevailed. Mean barometer,
29'6 inches.
The week ending January 28th was drier and colder. Minimum
temperature, 288.5; maximum, 52°.4; mean, 38°.5. On three days slight
rain fell (0.15 inch). The winds were n.e. The sunshine 36 per cent.
Mean barometer 30.0 inches.
