TO THE
MAYOR, ALDERMEN AND COUNCILLORS
OF THE
BOROUGH OF SOUTHGATE
Mr. Mayor, Ladies and Gentlemen
I have the honour to present the Annual Report for the year
1963.
A highly satisfactory feature of the vital statistics for 1963 is
the sharp drop in infant mortality. The Birth Rate with 1,012 live
births, was 15.63 per 1,000 of population. The Death Rate was
10.78, slightly lower than last year's figures of 11.6 and lower than
that for the country as a whole—12.2.
There were no maternal deaths during 1963.
The Infantile Mortality rate, i.e. the number of infants who
died during the first year of life per 1,000 live births fell from 14.8
to the record low figure of 8.89.
Two trends referred to in last year's Report, a rising Birth Rate, and an increase in the illegitimate Birth Rate, are again evidenced this year as is shown in the following tables :—
Year | No. of Births | Birth-rates | Illegitimate Birthrate as a percentage of Total Live Births | |
