Fumes and Noise
During 1963, 10 complaints were received from residents
concerning alleged nuisances from fumes arising in three instances
from industrial premises and in seven instances at domestic premises.
Each complaint was investigated by the Public Health Inspectors.
In the case of the industrial premises, observations were made
and steps taken to obtain the Co-operation of the firms concerned,
with the result that the nuisances were abated. In the case of the
domestic premises, the causes of the fumes complained of were
investigated and the residents advised upon remedial action.
Ten complaints were received from residents concerning
alleged nuisances from noise. These included such varied noises
as the crowing of cockerels, noise from shop-fitting work at night,
a noisy refrigerator, and industrial noise. Informal action taken by
the Inspectors resulted in the noises ceasing or being reduced in
extent.
