POPULATION
The Registrar General's estimated population of the Borough
at the middle of 1962 was 71,370, a decrease of 120 as compared
with 1961.
BIRTHS—BIRTH RATES
The nett total births for the year accredited to the district
were 947, an increase of ten on the preceding year. Of these, 492
were males and 455 females (18 males and 26 females being
illegitimate).
The birth rate for the year was 14.4 per 1,000 of the
population. The birth rate for England and Wales was 18.0.
