POPULATION
The Registrar-General's estimated population of the Borough,
at the middle of 1961, was 71,490, an increase of 1,600 as compared
with 1960.
BIRTHS —BIRTH RATES
The total nett births for the year accredited to the district
was 937, a decrease of seven on the preceding year. Of these,
481 were males and 456 females (26 males and 30 females being
illegitimate).
The birth rate for the year was 14.14 per 1,000 of the population.
The birth rate for England and Wales for 1961 was 17.4.
