Eleven still births, all legitimate, were accredited to the Borough
for 1960. This is equal to a death rate of 11.46 (live and still
births) the corresponding figures for 1959 being 15 still births with
a rate of 17.32.
Maternal Mortality
No maternal deaths were reported during 1960.
Mortality of Persons over the age of 65
Six hundred and sixty-six deaths, or 71.69 of the total deaths
during the year occurred in persons over the age of 65 years. Of
these 241 died between the ages of 80 and 90, while a further 24
females and 8 males were over the latter age, the oldest being 101.
Following the trend of recent years, diseases of the heart and
circulation were responsible for more deaths in this age group than
any other cause.
