POPULATION
The Registrar-General's estimated population of the Borough
at the middle of 1960 was 69,880, a decrease of 800 as compared
with 1959.
BIRTHS —BIRTH RATE
The total nett births for the year accredited to the district was
944, an increase of 93 on the preceeding year. Of these, 482 were
males and 462 females (21 males and 26 females being illegitimate).
The birth rate for the year was 14.7 per 1,000 of the population.
The birth rate for England and Wales for 1960 was 17.1.
