The repairs referred to were carried out mainly as a result of
informal action on the part of the Inspectors. Only in 45 instances
was it found necessary to follow-up informal notices by the service
of Statutory Notices.
Non-compliance with six of the above-mentioned Statutory
Notices necessitated legal proceedings being instituted against the
respective owners. In each case a Nuisance Order was made by
the Court and the necessary repairs were subsequently carried out.
House-to-house inspections of older rented houses in the
Borough, which it was found possible to recommence towards the
close of 1958, continued throughout 1959.
Unfit Houses.
During 1959, inspections were made of 9, 10, 11 and 13 Park
Cottages, N.11, and 1 and 2 Hive Cottages, N.11, and all were
found to be unfit for human habitation and incapable at reasonable
expense of being made so fit. No undertakings or offers of works
being received from the owners, the Council made Closing Orders
in repsect of 9, 10, 11 and 13 Park Cottages, and Demolition Orders
in respect of 1 and 2 Hive Cottages in accordance with the provisions
of the Housing Act 1957.
