POPULATION
The Registrar-General's estimated population of the Borough
at the middle of 1959 was 70,680, a decrease of 260 as compared
with 1958.
BIRTHS—BIRTH RATE
The total nett births for the year accredited to the district was
851, an increase of 42 on the preceeding year. Of these, 436 were
males and 415 females (21 males and 11 females being illegitimate).
The birth rate for the year was 13.0 per 1,000 of the population.
The birth rate for England and Wales for 1959 was 16.5.
