time. It will also be appreciated that we carry out a continuous
campaign in regard to food hygiene, both during the visits paid to
food premises by Sanitary Inspectors, and by talks and film shows
given by members of the Public Health staff.
The coming into force of the anticipated Food and Drugs Act
in its amended form should enable us to pursue the matter of clean
food with even greater vigour. At the present juncture, the general
standards of clean food could not be described as satisfactory, even
in Southgate. I am not suggesting that our standards are not at
least as high as those in neighbouring authorities. The problem is
national rather than local, and is one which demands the attention
of all right-thinking citizens. We must aim at making Southgate a
Borough as famed for its food hygiene standards as for its many
other excellencies. This will require time and energy, which could
scarcely be expended in a better cause.
