was, however, made to the Public Health Committee; the result
of our activities will be discussed in next year's Annual Report.
We have taken the opportunity during the year to stress the
importance of clean food in the various talks and film shows
arranged for local organisations. As before, the Sanitary Inspectors
also take the opportunity during their daily visits round the district
of pressing forward the need for a wider understanding of food
hygiene. It is at least satisfactory that no major outbreak of food
poisoning was reported in Southgate during 1952. There is none
the less considerable room for improvement. I intend to submit a
detailed report to the Public Health Committee on this aspect of
our work, having regard to the outcome of our Clean Food
Month, together with suggestions relating to the education of food
handlers and the raising of present standards. Meantime, we await
amendments to the present Food and Drugs legislation, now long
overdue.
