GENERAL.
Although the daily average of patients in hospital
during 1940 was little more than half the daily average
for 1939, the total number of patients admitted in
1940 shows an increase over the total for the previous
year. This indicates shorter periods of detention
in hospital, with more frequent admissions and discharges.
The work of the hospital generally was considerably
greater as compared with the preceding year. The
increase was outstandingly noticeable in connection
with the laundry. In addition to the normal hospital
laundry, vast quantities of linen, etc., including
some 1600 blankets, 4200 towels, 300 sheets,3400
pillow cases, etc., were washed and laundered for the
various sections of the Civil Defence Personnel.
