previously. As a 100% grant towards the payment of a midwife
is only granted to families with income below 6 6 per head, per
week, this would bring the two scales into closer approximation."
(ii) Visits to Isolation Hospitals.
A report on visits paid to Isolation Hospitals at Coventry,
Barking and Wakefield, under the joint signatures of Councillor
G. Peverett, Chairman of the Public Health Committee, A. C. J.
Browne, Architectural Assistant, and the Medical Officer of Health,
was submitted to the Public Health Committee on 4th February,
1937.
(iii) Health Week.
Two reports on Health Week, October 17th-23rd, were submitted
to the Public Health Committee. The first dealt with the preliminary
arrangements, while the second enumerated the various activities
embraced by the programme, together with an estimate of the
results achieved.
IV. Air-Raid Precautions.
It still appears premature to report fully upon this subject,
especially in a Report such as this, but it might be stated that considerable
work was carried out by members of the Public Health
Department on Air-Raid Precautions during 1937. These duties
are constantly increasing and demand careful attention. From
the purely Public Health standpoint, it is pleasing to note that, as
a corollary to A.B.P. training, many individuals previously
ignorant of the principles and practice of First Aid and Home
Nursing, will now receive valuable instruction in those subjects.
I should not like to let this opportunity pass without thanking
the local officers of the St. John Ambluance Brigade and the British
Red Cross Society for their valuable co-operation, in what has been
a somewhat difficult although very necessary task.
V. Insulin.
As in previous years, a supply of insulin, free of charge, has
been provided for necessitous patients residing in the Borough.
One such patient received a total of 6,800 units, at a cost of
£2 2s. 6d. No new cases were reported during the year.
Periodical reports are forwarded to the Ministry of Health.
