APPENDIX.
I. Health Publicity.
The features regarding health publicity set out in previous
Annual Reports were continued during 1937, with the addition of
a Health Week held in October. Full details as to the Health
Week programme and the results achieved were set out in the
Council minutes for November, and it need only be stated here that
the effort very fully justified the small expenditure involved. Permission
has now been granted to add the cinematograph to our
armamentarium. The cinema, particularly the talking picture, is
one of the best means of reaching the publics. With an up-to-date
projector and a supply of suitable, interesting films, it should be
possible to arrange regular meetings in connection with existing
societies and organisations operating within the Borough. In this
way it is hoped that reasonably large audiences will be reached,
and a constant stream of useful propaganda provided. It is also
anticipated that 1938 will see the publication of a hand-book setting
out in some detail the public health services of the Borough. Following
previous practice, opportunity was taken during the year
to aquaint all general practitioners practising in Southgate with
the full list of available services, in the hope that the information
might be personally useful, and that it might also be passed on as
and when required. I have reason to believe that this service is
greatly appreciated.
The advantages of health publicity require little if any
emphasis. Publicity will always be required, and, considering the
wares which we have to offer and the expense which these wares
entail, it would appear only logical to advertise them in the best
possible manner.
II. Circular Letters.
The following circular letters were issued to doctors during the
year :
(a) Letter re admission of influenza and influenzal
pneumonia cases to the Isolation Hospital.
(b) Letter re resuscitation apparatus fitted to ambulances.
(c) Letter re arrangements with So-uthgate Queen's Nursing
Association for the domiciliary treatment of certain
cases. Also revised list, of Public Health Services.
(d) Letter re bye-laws as to establishments for massage or
special treatment.
(e) Letter re occurrence of cases of dysentery.
