Visiting.—The arrangements for visiting patients remain
unaltered and still appear satisfactory.
Difficulty is occasionally encountered in dealing with visitors,
but so far the privileges granted by the Committee have never had
to be refused.
Laboratory.—Details of the Laboratory work carried out
in connection with the Hospital will be found on page 20.
Miscellaneous.—(1) The oldest patient treated in the
Hospital during the year was a female aged 78 years suffering from
erysipelas; the youngest was a. baby aged 6 days admitted with its
mother, who was suffering from puerperal pyrexia.
(2) One patient from Southgate was admitted by error to the
Enfield and Edmonton Joint Hospital. As soon as the error was
discovered, the patient was transferred to our own hospital.
(3) Miss Beatrice M. West, Matron at the Isolation Hospital
since August, 1930, resigned her position in July and was later
appointed Matron of the Barnet Isolation: Hospital. Miss Marian
T. Durward, Matron of the Florence Nightingale Hospital, Bury,
was appointed to fill the vacancy, and commenced her duties in
October. I should like to take this opportunity of expressing my
appreciation of the many services which Miss West rendered to the
hospital during her tenure of office, and at the same time to express
to Miss Durward and the members of the Hospital Staff my sincere
thanks for the admirable way in which they carried out their varied
and responsible duties.
I should also like to thank my Deputy, Dr. A. S. Burns, for
the numerous services which he rendered to the Hospital and to
myself during the year.
