Complications.—The complications met with during 1937
were as follows:
Scarlet Fever.-—(Total of 176 cases treated during the year).
Adenitis 3
Late Albuminuria 2
Double Otorrhoea 2

Right ,, 1

The complication rate for scarlet fever during 1937 was 5.6
per cent., as against 4.2 per cent, during 1936 and 6.6 per cent,
during 1935. One would like to believe that the treatment received
by the patients at the hospital played a major part in maintaining
the complication rate at so low a level, but it must always be
remembered that the type of scarlet fever admitted during the past
few years has been definitely mild, the risk of complications being
thus correspondingly reduced. In spite of the apparent mildness
of the disease, however, it may be stated that 10 cases were admitted
to hospital already suffering from otorrhoea. The complication
rate for otorrhoea at the hospital (2.8%) would thus appear
satisfactory, especially when it is remembered that, so far at least
as Tottenham is concerned, we only receive the most severe cases.
