SANITARY INSPECTION OF AREA.
The various tables set out on the following pages detail the
work of sanitary inspection carried out within the Borough
during 1937. From these tables, the following facts emerge:
1. The total number of inspections has increased, from
22,162 in 1934, to 30,780 in 1937. A tabulated list of inspections
may be made to convey much or little, but such a steady
increase as is shown in the figures for the past few years denotes a
proportionate increase in the work of sanitary inspection within
the Borough. This, of course, is merely what one would expect in
a developing district such as Southgate.
2. It will be noted that the number of premises under
periodical inspection has increased during the past year from. 583
to 619. When it is realised that the corresponding figure for 1935'
was 324, it will be appreciated that this aspect of public health has
necessitated increased supervision.
3. The total number of informal notices has slightly
increased, but has not varied greatly from the average of the past
few years. The number of statutory notices is once again low.
4. The inspection of factories and' workshopsi and also of
shops shows a slight increase, but not more than one would anticipate
from the steady addition of new premises to the district.
