It will be noted with pleasure that the incidence of disease has
shown a definite decrease in every respect. The percentage of unsound
meat has been low for many years, but it is doubtful if any
district in Great Britain could show a better standard than that
set out for 1937 in the table on the previous page.
Infringements.—The following infringements were discovered
and dealt with during the year:—
1. Slaughter of Animals Act, 1933.
Animals being killed without being first effectively
stunned with a mechanically operated instrument
2
Other Foods.—The bakehouses, fish, fruit and grocers' shops
situated within the district continue to be kept under observation.
57 lbs. oif halibut and 141bs. of mackerel were voluntarily
surrendered during the year.
Shops Act, 1934.—A summary of the work carried out under
this Act is detailed in the section relating to the sanitary inspection
of the area. It will once again be seen that this Act necessitated
considerable supervision on the part of the Sanitary
Inspectors, a supervision which is essential from many points of
view. The administration of the bye-laws with respect to hairdressing
and massage establishments, while not strictly speaking
coming under the Shops Act, is of a comparable nature. These
duties are being performed by Miss Wellman, who has spent considerable
time in their execution.
