To the
MAYOR, ALDERMEN AND COUNCILLORS
of the
BOROUGH OF SOUTHGATE.
Mb. Mayor, Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to present to you my Annual Report for the
year 1937.
Once again, the twelve months under review have been satisfactory,
and there is little outstanding to report. As in recent
years, information contained in the present Report includes the
data required by the Ministry of Health, together with such
comments as appear necessary or desirable.
It has already been stated that the year 1937 was satisfactory
from a Public Health standpoint. The Death Rate shows no
material alteration from the low level of recent years, the Infantile
Mortality Rate has fallen slightly and is still well below that for
England and Wales, while the Infectious Sickness Rate is one of the
lowest yet recorded in the district.
The various steps taken to augment the Public Health Services
of the Borough and to keep them up-to-date will be found set out
in the body of the Report, together with those proposals suggested
for the immediate future.
Two alterations were effected in the personnel of the Public
Health Staff during the year. A new Health Visitor, Miss M.
Maddock, was appointed to take the place of Mrs. Blake, who
resigned in October, 1937. A change was necessitated in the
clerical staff owing to the resignation of the junior typist. This
position was filled by the transfer of a typist from the Town Clerk's
Department.
