The negotiations with regard to the extension of the Isolation
Hospital and the establishment of a Joint Hospital District are
still proceeding, while the plans of the new hospital are approaching
completion. For several years past I have stated that the end of
these negotiations appears in view, and there is now every hope
that this statement will at last be justified within the near future.
The only change in the Public Health Staff during the year
was the appointment of a new Health Visitor to take the place of
the Health Visitor who resigned in April, 1936. Miss Hart, who
secured the appointment, has already proved herself an extremely
valuable colleague. Opportunity was also taken during the year
to instruct the assistant disinfector, temporarily loaned from the
Surveyor's Department, in the driving of a van. The department
is now in the position of being able to call upon the services of
two qualified van drivers, thus facilitating the work to be carried
out. Mention will also be found in the report of the instruction
given to several additional members of the department in
laboratory technique.
As hitherto, Dr. Tate, the County Medical Officer, has supplied
statistics regarding School Clinics and Public Elementary Schools
within the Borough, information which is most valuable and which
is only obtainable through that channel.
In conclusion, I should once again like to tender my grateful
thanks to the Chairman and Members of the Public Health Committee
and to the Members of the Borough Council for the unfailing
assistance and courtesy extended to me during the year. To this
must be added my grateful thanks to each individual member of
the Public Health Staff for their willing co-operation, a co-operation
which is none the less welcome for being a virtually accepted fact.
I am, Miss Appleyard and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
W. C. HARVEY,
Medical Officer of Health.
