General Provision of Health
Services.
Hospitals.—General Hospitals.—The arrangements set out in
the Annual Report for 1930 regarding the provision of general
and special hospital accommodation for the inhabitants of Southgate
remain unaltered. They still appear satisfactory.
The suggestion outlined in last year's Report regarding the
enlargement of the accommodation available at the Wood Green
and Southgate Hospital has now reached a further stage, and
plans are being prepared to carry the scheme into being. This ia
most satisfactory and should considerably improve the medical and
surgical facilities available to the inhabitants of Southgate. In
this connection, it may be noted that the Borough Council is contemplating
making an increased grant to the hospital in question
in recognition of the work which it is performing on behalf of the
Borough.
Provision for Maternity Beds.—The agreement with the Royal
Northern Hospital and the Salvation Army Maternity Hospital
to admit Southgate mothers at reduced fees, continues to work
satisfactorily. As before, the North Middlesex County Hospital is
also being utilised by a proportion of our maternity cases.
The County Authorities have not yet carried out the expected
additions to the accommodation for maternity cases at the North
Middlesex County Hospital. This is in many ways regrettable as
6uch accommodation is urgently required, the urgency increasing
as time progresses.
Isolation Hospital.—The following improvements were carried
out at the Isolation Hospital during 1936:—
Re-decoration of wards; purchase of additional ward
furnishings and equipment; purchase of new furniture for
Administrative Block; opening of two tennis courts and
puttiing green for use of staff.
During the present year, further improvements are contemplated.
These will include the usual re-decorations and replacements,
the provision of running water (modern type surgical
basins) in all the wards, the installation of a signal system in the
Cubicle Block, the purchase of the latest type of insulated food
