APPENDIX.
1. Health Publicity.
The customary attempt was made during 1935 to carry out
adequate and continuous health publicity by means of talks, distribution
of suitable pamphlets where and when necessary, topical
articles in the local Press and the circulation of the Southgate
edition of "Better Health," many of whose introductory articles
also appeared in the Press. Continuing the policy of previous
years, it was not thought advisable to hold a Health Week or Baby
Show in Southgate, although the latter function was at one time
suggested. I personally consider the work of continuous health
propaganda most valuable, this being a branch of the Public Health
services which is now coming to be appreciated at its proper value.
Ignorance, not deliberate neglect, is still our greatest obstacle, and
only by persistent education and contact can this difficulty be overcome.
2. Insulin.
As stated in the report for 1934, a supply of insulin, free of
charge, has been provided for four necessitous patients residing in
the district, the supply ranging from 20 to 60 units per day.
During the past year, the supply to three of the patients was
discontinued, upon the reports of the medical practitioners in charge
of the cases that the patients no longer required insulin. No new
cases requiring assistance were reported during this period.
A total of approximately 19,200 units of insulin, costing
£6 0s. 0d., was distributed during 1935.
Periodical reports continue to be transmitted to the Ministry
of Health.
3. Report on Cricket and Fly Nuisance in the Neighbourhood
of the Refuse Destructor, submitted to the Public Health
Committee, 10th September, 1935.
"Since the last meeting of the Public Health Committee several
complaints regarding nuisances from flies and crickets have been
received from householders residing in the neighbourhood of the
Refuse Destructor.
