PRIVATE SCHOOLS.
Several visits were paid to private schools within the Borough,
following the notification of multiple cases of infectious disease.
In one instance, the majority of the scholars attending were
"Dick" tested, while a large series of swabs were examined for
the presence of hemolytic streptococci, in an attempt to control a
small, localised focus of scarlet fever. The result of the "Dick"
tests revealed the presence of almost 100 per cent, positive reactors.
The children who were found to be carrying hsemolytic streptococci
were excluded until 3 negative swabs had been obtained, after
which the outbreak very quickly subsided.
