fever occurring in the diphtheria ward. When the percentage of
wrong diagnoses is taken into account this single case is, in my
opinion, a remarkable tribute to the watchfulness of the nursing
staff.
In two instances children were admitted to the diphtheria ward
incubating whooping cough. The cases were removed as soon as
the symptoms of whooping cough appeared and no secondary cases
occurred.
Visiting.—The arrangements for visiting patients remain
unaltered and appear satisfactory.
Transfers to and from Other Hospitals.—The following
transfers occurred during the year:—
From the Prince of Wales's Hospital 18 cases.
„ North Middlesex County Hospital 6 „
„ Wood Green and Southgate Hospital
1 case.
To the Prince of Wales's Hospital 1 case.
,, North Middlesex County Hospital 5 cases.
,, Wellhouse Hospital 1 case.
,, Charing Cross Hospital 1 ,,
,, Wood Green and Southgate Hospital 1 ,,
I would again like to pay tribute to the courtesy of the Medical
Superintendent of the North Middlesex County Hospital who invariably
receives patients requiring General Hospital treatment. These
cases are for the most part made up of patients admitted to the
Hospital with a wrong diagnosis.
Laboratory.—Details of the Laboratory work carried out in
connection with the Hospital will be found on pag; 19.
General Remarks.—It gives me great pleasure to express my
gratitude to the Matron of the Hospital, Miss West, and to the
members of the nursing staff for the consistent services which they
rendered throughout the whole of 1934. As will be seen from the
previous records, the year's work was exceptionally arduous and
necessitated whole-hearted co-operation from everyone concernded
in the running of the Hospital. This co-operation was forthcoming
and did not a little to lighten the burden of the work.
I would also like to thank my Deputy, Dr. Burns, together with
Dr. Macdonald, for the innumerable services which they rendered
during the year.
