POPULATION.
By reason of the Middlesex Review Order, 1934, various alterations
were made to the boundaries whereby an additional 167 acres
were included within the Borough, as from April 1st, 1934. The
Registrar-General's revised estimate of the population at that time
was 59,250.
The Registrar-General's estimate of the population at the
middle of 1934 was 59,997, which is an increase of 1,177 over the
estimate for 1933. This is taken as the population of the Borough
for the purposes of this Report.
The natural increase of the population by excess of births over
deaths was 44, as compared with an excess of 21 deaths over the
total births during 1933.
BIRTHS—BIRTH RATE.
The nett total of births accredited to the district was 640, an
increase of 70 on the preceding year; of these, 343 were males and
297 females (13 males and 8 females being illegitimate). The birthrate
was, therefore, 10.66 per 1,000 of the population, as against
9.69 in 1933.
The birth-rate for England and Wales for 1934 was 14.8.
The total number of births actually registered in the district
during the year amounted to 395.
As will be seen, the birth-rate shows a slight increase on last
year's figure although it is still low.
MORTALITY.
General Mortality and Death Rate.—The nett number of
deaths accredited to this district was 596, an increase of 5 as
compared with the previous year.
