As will be seen from the above table, the past year has
been more than ever a busy one at the Hospital, and especially
so during the first eight months, when the Hospital has had
to accommodate a very considerable greater number of patients
than it was originally designed for.
The number of patients admitted during the past year was very considerably in excess of those of any previous year, as will be seen from the following table:—

It is during the last 3 years that the accommodation
afforded by the existing buildings has been so strained. This
has not been due to the occurrence of any epidemics, but to
rapid increase in the population of the district, and was
anticipated. The pressing need for the enlargement of the
Hospital in consequence of this rapid increase of the
