Average for year9.1712.2

It will be seen from the above Table that the Hospital was
never empty, although very nearly so during part of July and
August. Throughout the whole year the admissions were lower
than those of the previous year by 29. Taking into consideration
the large increase in the population during the past year, this
must be considered a very small number of admissions, and it is
unlikely with the rapidly increasing population that it will ever
be so low again.
In spite of the comparatively small number of admissions, it
will also be seen that in January and February the Hospital was full
almost to its utmost limits ; and I am of opinion that, taking into
consideration the rapidity with which the population of the
District is increasing, it is very desirable that the Isolation Block
should be completed by the addition of the other half as soon as
possible. At the present time the two wards of this block have
to accommodate both Diphtheria and Typhoid Fever, whereas for
two separate diseases two wards each are required, one for male
and one for female cases.
MISCELLANEOUS.
Return of the Metropolitan Asylums Board.—
During the past year 7,044 cases were admitted into this Hospital
situated at Winchmore Hill; of these 6,564 were Scarlet Fever,
and 480 Diphtheria.
There were 13 deaths:—12 from Scarlet Fever, and 1 from
Diphtheria.
