SCARLET FEVER.

notified from the different localities as follows :—14 from Southgate,
24 from New Southgate, 3 from Winchmore Hill, and 28
from Palmers Green and Bowes Park.
In four houses sanitary defects were found. Two cases were
imported, and eight were secondary cases occurring in houses
from which previous cases had been notified.
Sixty cases were removed to the Isolation Hospital.
DIPHTHERIA.
There were 23 cases notified from 22 houses, as against 23 in
the preceding year, 9 in 1903, and 22 in 1902.
They were notified from the different localities as follows :—
3 from Southgate, 7 from New Southgate, 6 from Winchmore
Hill, and 7 from Palmers Green and Bowes Park ; three cases
were imported, and one was a secondary case.
Four cases ended fatally.
In two houses sanitary defects were found.
TYPHOID FEVER.
During the year 4 cases were notified from 4 houses, and
from the different localities as follows :—I from New Southgate,
2 from Southgate, and one from Palmers Green and Bowes Park.
One case was fatal.
In one case the infection was probably due to the consumption
of shell fish. Another case was imported, but in the remainder
I was unable to trace the source of infection.
TUBERCULOSIS.
During the year there were 12 deaths from Tubercular
diseases, 9 of these being from Phthisis.
In all cases of Phthisis that have come to my knowledge,
leaflets have been left pointing out fully the nature and danger of
the disease, and the means to be taken for the prevention of the
spread of infection to others ; and where rooms occupied by
consumptive persons have been evacuated by death or otherwise,
a visit has been paid by one of the sanitary officials and an offer
to disinfect, free of cost, by the Sanitary Authority has been
made, and in every case carried out.
