MEASUREMENT OF ATMOSPHERIC POLLUTION
The Council maintain two daily volumetric filters deployed to the requirements of the
Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, and are contributing to the National Survey of
Air Pollution being undertaken simultaneously by approximately one hundred selected local
authorities.
OFFICES, SHOPS AND RAILWAY PREMISES
The Offices, Shops and Railway Premises Act, 1963, came into force during the year, and a
total of 817 premises were registered.
The number of premises inspected was 154, and in 57 cases the attention of the owner or
occupier was drawn to matters in which the premises failed to meet the requirements of the Act
or Regulations made under the Act.
Five applications were received for exemption from the provisions as to temperature,
sanitary and washing facilities; in 3 instances this was refused and in 2 cases certificates of
exemption were granted.
