Reports are received monthly from the Colne Valley Water
Company as to the chemical and bacteriological examination of
samples of water and these have proved satisfactory.
The water supplied in this area is not plumho-solvent.
The average hardness of samples of water taken during the
year is:—
Total hardness 22.3
Permanent hardness 4.4
Temporary hardness 17.9
All new and repaired mains are chlorinated before being
restored to use and samples of water from them are tested
bacteriologieally to ensure the purity of the water.
9. SWIMMING POOLS
Ruislip Lido.
Thirty-two samples of water were obtained and submitted to the
Central Health Laboratory, and except for one or two unsatisfactory
reports due to chlorination difficulties, which were immediately
rectified, the samples were satisfactory.
Private Swimming Pools.
Private swimming pools in the district were regularly inspected
and samples obtained, all of which were satisfactory.
10. MEAT AND OTHER FOODS
There are no slaughterhouses or wholesale meat depots in this
district. Food shops, restaurants and premises where food is
prepared, stored or sold have been frequently inspected and found to
be generally satisfactory.
The following items of meat and food, amounting to 2 tons

complaints from the shopkeepers or the public, and were condemned:—
