During the last two years the Sanitary Inspector and
I have inspected all these cottages, and served notices upon
the owners to carry out improvements and repairs the
results has been an increase of rental to be paid by the
occupiers totally out of proportion to the amount spent by
the owners on the properties, and the visit of the Sanitary
Inspector and Medical Officer of Health is not looked
upon as a blessing by the tenants. In fact in many cases the
occupiers have asked that no notice should be taken of
defects.
The Ruislip Manor Cottage Society have built
16 cottages in Northwood which go by the name Manor
Cottages, the lowest rental accepted for any of these is 7/6
per week, this minimum rental is too high for the working
man to pay, and it seems that these cottages at this rental
do not fill the want.
The time has arrived when the Council must consider
building houses for the working classes throughout the
whole District, provided that such houses can be erected to
let at a rental of 6/- per week.
At a rough estimate I consider that the following
number of houses are required:
At Ruislip Common 16
At Ruislip Village 10
At Eastcote Village 20
At Northwood 30
