After screening in the Detritus Chamber, the Sewage passes
into six sedimentation tanks (divided into two series of three
in each), these tanks are filled alternately, and the sludge from
them is run on to a sludge area, where it is dried and then sold to
the farmers.
The fluid portion from the tanks falls over a weir on to
the contact beds, and after treatment in these beds it falls on
to the irrigation areas. The final effluent from these areas passes
into a stream which joins the river Pinn.
The effluent is of a fairly satisfactory nature but as some
secondary decomposition was observed in the above mentioned
stream, the Council are considering some suggested improvements
to the present contact beds and irrigation areas.
