INFECTIOUS AND OTHER DISEASES
(i) Notifiable Diseases
As in the past, I have not recorded those notifications, where, after
lvestigation, or further observation, the diagnosis has been changed,
^here, however, the altered diagnosis has proved to be another type of
otifiable infection, this has been appropriately recorded. The necessary
mendments have been forwarded at the end of each quarter to the
egistrar-General, in accordance with instructions.
(a) Acute Anterior Poliomyelitis
This year has been a quiet one, so far as Poliomyelitis has been conerned.
Why this has been so, we do not know. It has been suggested
hat the low incidence throughout the Country generally may have been
ue to the lack of real " Summer weather," but I feel that this is not the
hole explanation, as very severe spidemics have occurred in America,
ven during the Winter. We can at present but be thankful that we have
een so free this year.
There were in all only 3 patients. Of these, 1 had paralysis of the
"spiratory system and, unfortunately, died. The other 2 were nonparalytic.
