(iv) Food Products in General.
Insofar as it has been possible with shortage of staff, the Sanitary
Inspectors have carried out routine inspections of premises
where food is prepared or sold. All these concerned have been issued
with a copy of the Byelaws, and, generally speaking, conditions are
satisfactory. If not, appropriate action is taken. During the year,
the Chairman of the Highways and Health Committee made it
known publically that he had received messages of appreciation
from several of those engaged in the trade ,as to the helpful advice
which we had been able to offer, and as to the co-operative spirit
which prevailed.
I feel it is appropriate in this section of the report to state
that, during the year, the Council decided that free cold washes
with the use of paper towels be made available in the men's and
women's conveniences at the Market Place, and in the women's
convenience at Eastern Road. Such facilities already existed at the
men's conveniences at Eastern Road. This resolution is a highly
commendable one in the interests of public health, and strengthens
our hands in carrying out our clean food campaign amongst the
stallholders in the Market Place.
