(iv) Food Products in General.
During the year consideration was given to the establishment
in this area of a Romford Hygienic Food Trading Guild to be administered
on lines similar to others throughout the Country, and
by the end of the year an Exploratory Committee, consisting of
representatives of interested parties, had the matter under review.
Also, during the latter part of the year, the Council gave consideration
to the Model Byelaws, issued by the Ministry of Food
for securing the observance of sanitary and cleanly conditions and
practices in connection with the Handling, Wrapping and Delivery
of Food and Sale of Food in the Open Air, and resolved to adopt the
Model Byelaws. The necessary steps are now being taken to secure
the approval of the Minister of Food thereto.
Whilst several inspections were carried out of restaurants, etc.,
and improvements made in consequence, the Sanitary Staff has been
insufficient in number to cope with all inspections that are desirable,
and when the Model Byelaws are finally approved, it will be necessary
to increase the staff accordingly.
