(ii) Laboratory Facilities.
The facilities are as before and fulfil the requirements of the
district.
(iii) Nursing in the Home.
(a) General Nursing.
The Establishment for this area is 7 Home Nurses. Since the
5th July, the District Nursing Associations have ceased to function,
and the service was taken over by the Essex County Council, under
the terms of Section 25 of the National Health Service Act, 1946.
One Representative of the 3 District Nursing Associations has been
appointed as a Co-opted Member to serve on the Health Area SubCommittee
for the area of Romford.
Table 3 sets out the work of the Home Nurses during the year.

(b) As mentioned in (i) above, the 9 Council Midwives in Romford,
although in the employ of the Essex County Council, still
serve in this area. All have had the necessary tuition in the administration
of Gas and Air Analgesia.
The following gives a summary of the cases attended by the
Midwives, as Midwives, and as Maternity Nurses :—

2.—MATERNITY AND CHILD WELFARE.
(i) Ante-natal and Post-natal Clinics.
During the year, 1,209 individual expectant mothers attended
the Ante-natal Clinics. In addition 31 mothers attended for Postnatal
advice.
In all 245 sessions were held. The total number of attendances
of the 1,240 mothers mentioned above was 5,749, giving an average
of 4.6 attendances per patient. The average number attending at
each session was 23.5.
During the same period 478 Child Welfare Sessions were held,
and the following table gives a summary of the attendances:—
