of town residents removed to the Union Workhouse, the
deaths for the district were 148. The population of the
district was estimated to be 14,700. The death-rate would
therefore be 10.06 per 1,000 of the population. The number
of births registered during the year was 418, the birth rate
being 28.4 per 1,000.

The following table shows the birth-rate and death-rate for the last five years.
