There were 405 cases of tuberculosis on the Register at the end of the year compared with 396 in 1960.

NATIONAL ASSISTANCE ACT, 1948
Under Section 50 of the Act, it is the duty of the local authority to arrange
for the burial or cremation of the body of any person who had died in its area
if it appears that no suitable arrangements for the disposal of the body have or
are being made. During the year one body was dealt with by the Council under
these provisions.
Under Section 47 of this Act it was necessary to apply for Magistrates'
Orders for the removal of one woman in need of care to a hospital. The
application was granted.
MORTUARY
During the year ten bodies were brought to the Mortuary where postmortem
examinations were conducted by a Home Office pathologist.
NOISE ABATEMENT ACT, 1960
Two complaints were received regarding noise from factory premises. In
each case the management co-operated in minimising the noise resulting from
machinery employed.
Complaints were also received regarding the "loudspeakers" used during
prohibited hours by ice-cream vendors. Warnings were sent to the firms
concerned.
