Public Cleansing
House refuse was collected throughout the district once every week by the
Council's refuse collection service using modern vehicles, and the refuse taken
for disposal to the Beckenham destructor. Trade refuse is also dealt with and there
is a regular collection of pig food from bins placed in the various roads.
There are no cesspools in the district.
Sanitary Inspection of the Area
The subject is dealt with under the heading of Housing and in the Report
of the Chief Sanitary Inspector.
HOUSING
The erection of 39 flats by the local authority was completed during the year.
Private builders erected 11 dwellinghouses and 12 flats and provided 11 flats by
converting existing houses.
1. Inspection of Dwellinghouses during the Year:—
(1) (a) Total number of dwellinghouses inspected for housing
defects (under Public Health and Housing Acts) 663
(b) Number of inspections made for the purpose 735
(2) (a) Number of dwellinghouses (included in subhead (1)
above) which were inspected and recorded under the
Housing Consolidated Regulations, 1925 and 1932 11

(3) Number of dwellinghouses found not to be reasonably
suitable for human habitation 579
2. Remedy of Defects without Service of Formal Notice:
