Child Life Protection.
Number of foster parents on the Register :
(a) at the beginning of the year 7

No legal proceedings were taken.
Dental Treatment.
Where necessary expectant and nursing mothers and children were referred
to the Dental Surgeon for treatment and this was done in 71 cases.
Care of Illegitimate Children.
The County Council co-operated in the arrangements adopted by the
Kent County Council for the care of unmarried mothers and their children.
Care of Premature Infants.
Steps were taken to implement the suggestions contained in Circular 20 /44
of the Ministry of Health. Arrangements were made for Penge babies born outside
the Joint Maternity Hospital to be admitted thereto when requiring institutional
care.
Up to 5th July, 1948, 4 premature infants were born in the district :-

Home and Domestic Helps.
Part-time Home Helps were employed in connection with maternity cases
and their services were provided in 17 cases up to the 5th July, 1948.
Domestic Helps were provided in 11 cases on account of illness in
the families concerned.
