Number of cases of overcrowding relieved during
the year 1
PREVALENCE OF, and CONTROL OVER, INFECTIOUS
AND OTHER DISEASES.
Diphtheria.
For the first time since Ponge became an Urban District, no
cases were notified.
Diphtheria Immunisation.
The following table gives the attendances, etc. during the year 1943.

Scarlet Fever.
There were 39 cases of Scarlet Fever notified (as against 28
in 194 2) and 35 of these were removed to Hospital.
The disease generally was of a mild type, and there were no
deaths. One "return" case was notifed.
Scabies and Verminous Heads.
There was an increase in the number of cases of scabies.
Patients (other than school children) who attended at the Maternity
and Child Welfare Centre for treatment numbered 377 and they
received 963 treatments.
Between the 1st November, 1943 and 31st December, 1943, 87
school children received 377 treatments.
Persons affected with head lice totalled 48 (of whom 18 were
school children) and they received 230 treatments.
Information regarding school children treated prior to the 1st
November, 1943, will be found in the School Medical Officer's report.
