Deaths.
The orude death rate for the year equalled 14.5 per 1.000
civilian population compared with 19,4 for 1941.
Of the total deaths, 58.7 were of persons 65 years of age
and over, compared with 58.9 the previous year.
Cancers.
The Cancer Death Rate per 1,000 civilian population was
2,42 compared with 2,69 in 1941.
Maternal Mortality.
The rate for The year per 1,000 live and still births was 2.65.
The average maternal mortality rates per 1,000 total births for the
last ten years are as follows
England and Wales 3.15. Penge 2.39.
Infantile Mortality.
The Death Rate of Infants under one year of age was 53,9 per
1-000 births compared with a rate of 70.4 for 1941., Seven deaths
occurred amongst infants who had attended the Child Welfare Centre.

GENERAL PROVISION OF HEALTH SERVICES FOR THE AREA.
Ambulance Facilities,
During the year the Council's motor ambulance responded to
752 calls; 448 for private removals and 304 for accidents and
sudden illness.
Maternity and Child Welfare Cent re,,
The Maternity and Child Welfare Centre was held, as before,
at the Council's School Clinic, 17, Oakfield Road, on Tuesday,
Wednesday and Friday afternoons, and the Ante-Natal and Post-Natal
Clinic on Wednesday mornings. The Medical Officer now attends the
Clinics on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons and Wednesday mornings.
His attendance at the Tuesday afternoon Clinic commenced on the 4th/
August., 1942 and an additional session of the Ante-Natal and PostNatal
Clinic commenced on the 3rd June, 1942.
There was a marked increase in the attendances at the Centre
during the year, and the figures for 1941 and 1942 are as follows
