There were 11 cases of Scarlet Fever notified (as against 13
in 1940) and 9 of these were removed to hospital. This was the
lowest number of cases recorded in one year.
The disease generally was of a mild type and there were no
deaths. There were no "return" cases.
Typhold Fever.
Two Penge residents were removed to Famborough Hospital, Kent,
and subsequently notified as suffering from Typhoid Fever. The
adjoining district of Beckenham had a few cases at the same time.
In all but one of the cases, fresh fruit and salads had been
..purchased from a local greengrocer. Specimens of urine and excreta
