Eight of the 10 deaths from pulmonary tuberculosis were
of cases notified in this district. Both of the non-notified cases
who died were patients in hospitals outside the district.
Two of the seven cases of other forms of tuberculosis
who died during the year had been notified. The five cases not
notified died of tuberculous meningitis (3) and tuberculous
peritonitis (2), and with the exception of one case all died in
hospitals outside the area.
During the year 128 specimens of sputum were sent to
the Kent County Laboratory, Maidstone, to be examined for
tubercle bacillus ; 23 of these were positive.
