Orthopaedic Treatment.
Cases are seen at the Infant Welfare Centre and at the
School Clinic, and, when necessary, referred to the Croydon
General Hospital, where treatment is provided at the cost of
the Council.
Suitable cases are sent to St. Nicholas' and St. Martin's
Orthopaedic Hospital, Pyrford, Surrey, for in-patient treatment.
In necessitous cases hospital treatment and surgical
appliances are provided by the Council free of charge.
SANITARY CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE AREA.
Water.
All the houses in the district are supplied with a constant
service of water by the Metropolitan Water Board, the water
being examined bacteriologically daily by them. The majority
of the premises are directly connected with the rising main.
Seven drinking water cisterns were cleansed and covered, and
at four houses water was supplied direct from the rising main.
Drainage and Sewerage.
All the premises in the district are connected to the public
sewers. The sewage of Penge goes through the Metropolitan
Borough of Lewisham into the London County Council system
of sewers, and a part of the surface water into a local stream,
which is culverted in certain parts.
