Town Hall,
Anerley, S.E. 20.
April, 1926.
To the Chairman and Members of the Urban District
Council of Penge.
Gentlemen,
I have pleasure in submitting my Sixth Annual Report
for the year ending the 31st December, 1925.
Six hundred and fifty-two Intimation Notices and 31
Statutory Notices were served under the Public Health and
Housing Acts. In addition Statutory Notices were served
periodically for the cleansing of the following : Bakehouses,
Common Lodging Houses and Cowsheds (semi-annual) ;
Slaughterhouses (quarterly) ; and Houses Let in Lodgings
(annual) ; and 842 letters were sent out during the year.
The drainage systems of three houses have been
entirely reconstructed, whilst those of 20 were partially relaid,
and 48 cleared.
Some difficulty was experienced with a few owners
regarding repairs, and the necessary works were only effected
after summonses had been threatened.
A number of applications were made by tenants anxious
to receive advice as to repairs, etc., under the Rent and Mortgage
Interest (Restriction) Acts, 1920-23. Inspections were
therefore made, the owners communicated with and requested
to carry out various works.
In three instances only was it necessary to issue a
certificate that the premises were " not in a reasonable state
of repair."
These Acts are most useful to tenants for getting repairs
carried out that are outside the purview of the Public Health
Acts.
