Rats and Mice (Destruction) Act, 1919.
The Kent County Council delegated its powers to the
Council. All complaints received are investigated, poisons
supplied, and traps lent, and where practicable the rats are
driven from their holes by the use of a smoke generating
machine (used for testing drains), the occupiers borrowing
dogs to kill the rats as they are driven out. This has been
found to be very successful.
The bulk of the complaints appear to arise from occupiers
of premises who keep fowls, etc. There is apparently no infested
area in the District, mainly owing to the fact that it is
purely residential.
Sanitary Conditions of Theatres, Music Halls, etc.
In accordance with a circular letter issued by the Ministry
of Health, dated August 25th, 1920, all the places of
public entertainment have been visited, and with the exception
of a few minor defects, which the managements remedied
on being notified, are kept in a satisfactory condition.
A tabulated statement of the works effected will be found
at the end of the Report, by which it will be seen that the
activities of the Department cover a wide field and involve a
great amount of responsibility.
