UNSOUND FOOD.
Several trunks of fish have been brought by the retail
dealers for opinion as to their being fit for human food.
It is much to the dealers' credit that this voluntary procedure
of having unsound fish destroyed is taken instead
of selling them to the public, who would be the sufferers
thereby. In one instance information was received that
pork pies were sold in a condition unfit for human food.
Your Inspector bought one, the last the vendor had, which
was subsequently condemned by a Magistrate. A letter
was written to the vendor cautioning him for this.
PETROLEUM ACTS.

All the samples were above the minimum (73 degrees Fahrenheit) prescribed by the Act.

PROSECUTION.
In only one case was it necessary to take proceedings
before the Magistrates, which was for the recovery of costs
incurred in relaying a drain under Section 41, Public
Health Act, 1875, at Nos. 1, 2, and 3 Cornish Grove.
The amount claimed was recovered, and costs were
allowed.
