Cesspools.
During the year, the work of substituting main drainage for
cesspools has proceeded smoothly. Forty-three cesspools have been
abolished on the line of sewers which were constructed before 1961,
and at Leaves Green, where new sewers were being installed in Blackness
Lane and Westerham Road, 27 cesspools had been abolished by
the end of the year. Also at Allenby Road, Biggin Hill, 8 cesspools
were abolished on the line of a new sewer which has not as yet been
taken over by the Council.
The following summary shows the position at the end of 1961: —

Complaints.
During the year, 34 complaints were received from residents, but
in no case was it necessary to take formal action to secure abatement
of the nuisance.
Diseases of Animals (Waste Foods) Order, 1957.
The object of this Order is to prevent the spread of Foot and
Mouth and other diseases of animals. The Order provides, inter alia,
that where persons collect waste foods for feeding to animals or poultry,
the foods must first be boiled for one hour in a Plant licensed by the
Local Authority.
Six Boiling Plants were licensed during 1961, making a total of
52 licences issued under this Order.
Drainage and Sewerage.
The trunk soil sewerage system is under the controlof the West
Kent Main Sewerage Board. Branch main soil sewers and main
surface water sewers have been provided during the year by the Local
Authority as under: —
