Orpington and District Tuberculosis Care Committee.
The following report has been received from the Honorary
Secretary :—
"During the year 1957, the Committee helped forty-five cases,
sixteen of which were new cases referred during the year.
A considerable amount of our help took the form of weekly
grants for extra nourishment such as milk, groceries and coal.
Two holidays were arranged through the N.A.P.T. and paid for
out of our funds.
At Christmas forty-nine parcels were sent out to patients in
the Orpington district and also in Orpington and Farnborough
hospitals.
Help was extended to patients to cover outstanding commitments
so enabling them to accept hospital treatment without undue
worry or delay.
Two members of the Committee paid weekly visits to patients
in Orpington hospital and kept them supplied with magazines
which are much appreciated.
Funds are becoming harder to raise but, as far as possible, we
have not allowed this to curtail our activities."
Typhoid and Para-Typhoid Fever.
One case of Para Typhoid fever occurred during the year and
was admitted to Hospital for treatment.
Mass X-ray.
I am indebted to Dr. J. M. Morgan, the Director of the Mass
X-Ray Unit of the South Eastern Regional Hospital Board and his
staff, for supplying me with the statistics upon which the following
information is based.
During the year 11,252 people were X-rayed, of whom 4,735
were men and 6,517 women. Of the grand total, 5,978 had
previously taken advantage of this service.
